Get to Know Perrin
Hi Everyone! I'm Perrin. I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor passionate about helping those I work with advocate for themselves, increase self-awareness, and live more full, balanced lives.
Many people may not know that I came to work in the mental health field after pursuing a degree and career in music therapy. I received my bachelor's degree from Queens University of Charlotte in music therapy in 2016 and received my master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Wake Forest University in 2020. I have worked in nearly every level of mental health care throughout my career including inpatient hospitalization, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, and outpatient private practice.
I started my own private practice in 2023 and am excited to expand to serving clients throughout the Carolinas. In starting my practice, I wanted to focus on finding more balance in my own life and advocating for myself and my needs - this theme comes up a lot with my clients as well, and is a cornerstone of the work that Mockingbird Carolinas does.
I use a person-centered approach in my work with clients and meet you where you are. I like to use humor in sessions and value being authentic and "real" in the therapeutic relationship. It's hard to be comfortable and open if you can't connect with your therapist! I have experience helping individuals manage depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and relationship difficulties. I have training in trauma-focused care including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am also trained in Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT). I have a passion for serving clients navigating difficult life transitions including adjusting to college, new jobs, parenthood, and more.
In my free time, you'll find me trying out new coffee shops, supporting local small businesses, practicing yoga, enjoying time in nature, spending time with my family, and traveling. I also love a good Netflix binge every so often! I have a husband, young daughter, and two very spoiled French Bulldogs, one of whom you may meet in the office if you are ok with dogs!
I'm so proud of the work that my clients do, and it's truly such a privilege to be able to partner with individuals as they work to increase their self-awareness and live the lives they want to live.
